Collegiate Point Guard Kevin Major Makes Waves in College Sports Scene

Kevin Major

Every childhood basketball player has wished to make the big league someday. To have the fans, the honor, and the power of a professional athlete is an achievement that is becoming exponentially more difficult to attain. So many young dreamers fall off, as they fail to put in the time, work, and dedication needed to make it to the top. D2 Guard Kevin Major, however, is not one of them.

Coming out of the Bronx in New York City, Kevin Major was born on April 15th, 1997, and was raised around basketball. He would play in school, in the neighborhood cages, and quickly joined youth leagues to test his skills. With a burning passion for the sport, he quickly became a top youth player in the greater New York City area, winning many tournaments and gaining recognition for his talents. This caught the attention of a man by the name of Kenneth Gucc Robinson, who has coached more than a few basketball players in his time. Robinson, as cited by Major, was his greatest drive and support to play his best to receive a scholarship for a collegiate education. Robinson’s advice and help paid off, as Major received a full-ride to Pennsylvania State University to play point guard for the legendary Nittany Lions basketball team.

Now a D1 player, Major is nothing less than a beast on the court. At 6’3 and 185lbs, his build is perfect for the position of point guard. He is devilishly quick, and boy, can he jump! I’d personally recommend anyone to watch his highlights for a real look into how the sport should be played. Major’s training from legendary coach Leshawn Hammett has certainly skyrocketed his ball skills to the next level, as he has received numerous distinctions in his short 4 years of playing for Penn State. To name a few, he has been named PSUAC conference player of the week twice, USCAA National Player of the Week on January 25th, 2022, and attended the 2021-2022 PSUAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Awards as part of the East 1st Team for beating Wilkes University. The Nittany Lions are now top 2 nationwide, with a new regular-season record of a more-than-impressive 22-5 overall. This success could definitely be attributed, at least in part, to Major’s performance on the court. With an average of 20 scored points per game (his 1000th point was actually scored just recently on February 1st, 2022), he has been the difference between many losses and wins. Major currently leads the nation in assists and is sure to continue this awesome trend into the NBA very soon.
