Muhammad Gulbaz Khan is a Pakistani-American artist/songwriter who has introduced many styles of music to the Desi audience, ranging from hip-hop to trap to alternative R&B. His carefree and harmonic rhyming and singing style, along with powerfully reverberating vocals, sets him apart from other traditional artists. He is famously known as GVL KHAN. Khan lives in New Jersey, USA. He was raised in Lahore, Pakistan. He also owns a fashion clothing brand called Fiore Khan and a videography business called Khantrast Media.
While growing up, Khan always had a passion for music and cinematography. He grew up listening to artists like Bohemia, Eminem, Akon, Imran Khan, Bilal Saeed, Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, and Sajjad Ali. GVL KHAN used to listen to a broad variety of genres, which is why he incorporates a lot of genre-blending in his music today. It wasn’t till his Sophomore year of High School when he randomly came across mixing and mastering videos on YouTube. He had previously been passionate about cinematography, but his passion slowly started to fade away as he started working as a videographer. So he began recording different melodies to test mixing techniques on and began watching mixing and mastering lessons. He found it exciting to learn mixing and mastering through trial and error. Songwriting, singing and rapping as a whole became a bigger part of his life over time. Music had become a way for him to escape from reality. He released his first song, “Lahore (Remix),” after a couple years of studying mix and mastering. He was not expecting such a positive response, as he had previously worked with musicians that struggled to generate even a few hundred views. Meanwhile, he gained thousands of views with his debut song. This inspired him to pursue his current endeavors, and he is really proud to share his music with his followers and audience.
His success as a self-taught artist is astounding. 1.6 million people have listened to his music across all major streaming services. On TikTok, he made an original song become viral without the help of a record label. In addition, for over a year, his music got him over 20,000 monthly listeners. He’s doing well. As GVL KHAN sees it, one of the most important lessons he’s learned in life is this: “Life is short and death is already chasing us. So we should try our best to chase our dreams in the time we have here.” As a result, he believes that all challenges help us grow as individuals and help us develop the discipline necessary to succeed.
His plans in career and life are to expose the South Asian community to a wide variety of genres and not be grouped into one. To expand his career as an artist and fashion designer, he wants to build his brand, Fiore Khan, into a successful fashion brand. It is his ultimate goal to create an entire subculture for his target demographic by combining the branding from each of his areas.
