“Music is an outlet to conquer my fears”: In conversation with rapper and Singer Ray’Em
For many artist , writing a song is like drafting a journal: facing an obstacle course of old memories, emotions, dreams, losses, or long lost loves. What does it take to show the world what you’ve written? We spoke to Raymond Emamezi Okoro who uses his music as a way to alleviate minds and creates music simply first as an outlet to conquer his fears.
Born and brought up in Ughelli and Warri in Delta State, Raymond is a rapper and singer based in Lagos Nigeria. From a young age, he’s always admired music and was inclined to it by his parents who are ardent music lovers. He grew to appreciate different music genres and sounds from the 80s to the modern era. Ray’Em started writing raps and songs when he was in secondary school and later on started hitting the studio to make them. His inspiration to create music was to boldly put himself out there in the world and believe that he has what it takes. He knows that there are so many people out there in the world who will connect to his story and energy. And will be inspired to pursue their dreams and whatever talents they have.
He prides himself on making music that isn’t empty, music that has a message but is still enjoyable. Known for being versatile, Ray’Em explores multiple genres, subjects and moods with impeccable range. His distinct sound which some call enigmatic and mysterious, and some say hypnotizing, sets him apart from his peers.
With his first project, an EP titled “IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER” Ray’Em showcases his variety and versatility and assures his listeners that he’s something truly extraordinary and someone to watch out for.
Apart from being a rapper, Raymond is a songwriter, music director, and singer with a keen ear for unconventional and unique sounds. He makes music with relatable content that’s dope without the use of any vulgar language. His goal for his life is to touch and inspire people with his life and talents. With the same zeal and strength, Raymond is soon coming up with his new creation in November, this year and the fans are surely very excited.
