The word ‘horizontal’ finds its origin in the Latin ‘Horizon’, which later got dissected into both the modern English ‘horizontal’ and the ‘horizon’. The year 2021 saw the release of a paradoxical science-fiction book by Indian author Rishabh Dubey ‘Krikos: The Vertical Horizon’. ‘Vertical Horizon’, as Rishabh has named the book, is a sci-fi adventure that has somewhat revived the classical age and rage of space fantasy and fiction. Partnering up with the prestigious Leadstart Publishing, a Publishing House known to launch bestselling authors like ‘Anand Neelakantan’, and books by renowned authors like ‘Sabarna Roy’, Rishabh has come out with this fresh and mystical Universe of his own creation. Within a few months of its release, the book has created quite a buzz on social media, with numerous bloggers rushing to grab their initial copies to show them off online. Dubey even kicked off a trend in early August, whereby he urged his readers to visit bookstores to record their ‘Krikos purchase experiences’, so as to get featured on the author’s social media and to also get an opportunity for a one-to-one meet with the author. Born and raised in the city of Lucknow, India, Rishabh created his first fictional character at the age of 14. He named the character ‘Kridious’, later on becoming the character’s namesake by adopting ‘Kridious’ as his pen-name. ‘Kridious’ also became the lead protagonist of his magnum opus- Krikos: The Vertical Horizon. The book is filled with action-packed sequences and marked by exquisite poetry, all that shapes it to being a deserving prologue to what Rishabh dreams of as a Universe of books. Other than writing books, Rishabh has a passion for poetry and music and occasionally shares his musical shorts on social media. He has written elucidated poems on many social issues like that of patriarchy and the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community in the present-day world amongst others. Through his most famous work of poetry – “The Road to Atlantis’, Rishabh has blended the most celebrated fantasy worlds of pop culture like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Etcetera. He is also in the process of releasing his first studio music album. Dwelling mostly in the genre of Fantasy, Rishabh has covered various other domains of fiction in his books- like Political Satire, Myth-Fiction, Historic Fiction and Poetry. All of his work is marked by excellent use of imagery for an almost theatrical experience of reading. On conversing with him, he even told us- “Being a movie buff, I inadvertently write my stories like movies… When the characters speak, you don’t read them… you hear them…”. Well, we would love to see a movie, or an OTT series being made on your books in the near future. To end it, here’s a quote from Krikos that Rishabh shared when asked about his early struggles as a professional writer- Light Blinds… And only in darkness can you see the faintest of light…
