Here we sit down with Lewis to learn a little more about his journey.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Well, to be honest, I can pinpoint the exact moment I made the decision. Growing up, the biggest fear I had was to get a job and enter the workforce. So naturally, I delayed it as long as possible. I spent a few years travelling and living/studying overseas, and it wasn’t until I returned in 2016 that I knew I needed to make something of myself. I was scrolling Instagram and came across Gary Vee – and the rest is history.

How did you get started?

In 2018, I was blessed with an opportunity. At the time, I was working for a national events company. They saw my work ethic and drive, and offered me a position to run the whole company for them, while the founders started a new venture. From there, I learned all the ins and outs of running a business, and it wasn’t long before I went out on my own and started my first company.

What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

With my now company Boost Media, the biggest challenge was finding our optimum selling strategy. Like a lot of startups, making the first sale is always the hardest. I took massive action over the first couple of months trying to figure it out. I split tested a bunch of different methods, and then hit upon a gem. That literally 10x’d what we were doing, as has remained a core part of our strategy since. I learned that you always have to be willing to adapt and adjust to get things right.

What is the most memorable thing you’ve done since you started your business?

To be honest, it was making my first sale. I will never forget the smile I had on my face, as I was walking down the stairs to tell my dad about it. Him being in business for nearly 20 years himself, he knew exactly the feeling I was experiencing. It was then that my idea was validated, and was where the momentum began.

What is one book you recommend, and why?

The 4-hour workweek, by Tim Ferriss. This book will massively shift your perspective and get you out of the 24/7 hustle culture mentality. Working smart is the way forward, and I didn’t realize it until reading this book.

What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools or resources and what do you love about them?

Activecampaign, Monday.com, and Slack. What I love about these, is they make things so simple and save me close to 10 hours a week. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them.

In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

My mission in life is to build several multimillion-dollar companies and continue to live my dream lifestyle. With my success, I really want to give back by mentoring young, hungry, and ambitious entrepreneurs of the future.

In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Just take action. Nothing will ever be perfect at the start, so get that idea out of your head. The most important thing you can do is to focus on sales and marketing and worry about the rest later. Too many people fail by not making their business profitable early enough.
