While people were trying to avoid contracting the coronavirus in Indore by staying at home, the criminal minds were evolving themselves. Though the number of heinous crimes in the city saw a deep drop, many people reported cases of cybercrimes on a daily basis.
It appears as though Indore has become the new hub for cyber crimes owing to the fact that officials have been receiving at least one complaint of cybercrime each day. The criminals scammed people by making fake IDs of women and young girls on Facebook and Instagram and chatting with them. During these chats, they often befriend people and later on, start demanding money from them giving different reasons. Majority of the complaints consisted of such cases as per statements from cyber police officials.
Also, many a times, the scammers also used to demand money from people after sharing indecent photos and videos and blackmailing them later for having received such content. They even hacked the cameras on the mobiles and laptops of a few people and performed video recording of them. Then, these criminals blackmailed the people in the videos and started demanding money to erase them.
The latest frauds in the city involved cryptocurrency. As the digital currency has become popular, many people are in the search to invest money in it. Often, such people fall prey to the scams run by criminals and end up losing all their money. The lure comes in the form of doubling the money in a period of day or two. The tragic thing about such cybercrimes is that the people involved in them are making lakhs of rupees every day.
As per recent reports, it has been found that the criminals behind these cybercrimes are hackers from Pakistan. The people behind these crimes are so sharp-minded that they often leave no traces leading back to them. However, technology has played a major role in helping police officials to track them down. Though it is a difficult task, cyber police officials are doing their best to catch these cyber criminals. It has been found that crimanals behind these cyber crimes are some local guys , who also have some type of connection with pakistani hackers
