Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) Review

callofduty

Activision’s Call of Duty has rightfully established itself as the best first-person shooter (FPS) in terms of the quality of gameplay moments. Its sophisticated sequels and high-quality production are unmatched by most titles within this genre. Navigating through every chapter is never dull.

With the franchise’s re-release of Modern Warfare 2, we’ve made sure to complete the game and give you first-hand information on what’s in store. We think it’s undoubtedly a tremendous fast-paced action sequel, but we also have some reservations about it. For a comprehensive analysis, our review is in two parts, the Campaign mode and Multiplayer mode reviews.

Campaign Mode Review

We had a great experience with the campaign in Modern Warfare 2. It’s a sensational adventure that features a series of exciting sequences that build on one another. However, the storyline may come off as implausible to some – it’s not as straightforward as the plots of traditional video slots on this site. Nevertheless, it can be grasped over time, as you overcome the challenges in the game.

A lot of plot development falls apart under close examination but keeps the action moving forward. For example, in one scene, you could be hanging from a helicopter: in the next, you’re wearing a ghillie suit.

This recreation of the classic MW series has many regulars, many of whom have reprised their roles in the various chapters. In addition, the characters have titles and appearances similar to those of their predecessors from two versions of consoles ago.

You take control of various characters throughout that action, from seasoned franchise veterans like Soap and Gaz to fresh faces from the Mexican Special Forces. These characters’ re-introductions can be linked to why Modern Warfare has broken many sales records in franchise history.

They’re also aided by well-known figures such as Captain Price and Ghost. As usual, the actual action is built up, beginning with straightforward infantry operations against targets that are pretty easy to defeat. It’s no surprise that

However, the complete campaign is unable to connect with all of its ambitious shots due to some severe faults and highly annoying oversights that occur throughout. A sour note is introduced by the emergence of opponents wearing bulletproof vests and helmets, which require absurd portions of ammo to drop. This makes the game significantly more difficult.

After a certain point, these are perfect to use as occasional mini bosses. But using them in every encounter is tiring and frustrating because they have reached their maximum potential. In addition, they are responsible for a few strange spikes in difficulty, one of which is a full boss fight that occurs later on in the narrative.

The campaign includes pictures with a lot of flavour and variation, which helps to make up for the weird omission. Every stage in MW2 looks amazing, from rocky woods to mountainous deserts to out in the middle of nowhere military bases.

The quality of the voice acting is consistently high. Additionally, the value of the cutscenes that play between missions keeps improving with each playthrough. They also do a great job of elegantly bookending the plot moments for those paying attention.

Multiplayer Review

The multiplayer experience in Modern Warfare 2 was severely flawed upon release at its early stage. The deplorabl maps, overly complicated user interface, and dubious design decisions that veer away from precedent are all concerns.

Fans voiced their strong disapproval of the overwhelming majority of available designs. Weird layouts, annoying spawning, and more exits than you can count are all features of Modern Warfare’s poor map designs. However, it appears that the development of the game has continued regardless of this issue.

While doors remain ubiquitous, regular three-lane maps are increasingly rare. Although players frequently get fired in the rear due to the disorganised spawning mechanisms caused by the poor design of the maps.

Tossing yourself into the fray is now possible with a new dolphin-dive action. However, doing so will cause you to lose time before you can fire your weapons. As a result of these factors, you should expect to see fewer antics than you play.

Meanwhile, the addition of a ledge-hang mechanism is, excessive. The dopamine-injecting progression system in Modern Warfare 2 is also significantly more complex than in the original game. There is more depth here than in typical COD games, where you can access more powerful weaponry as you level up.

The ability to level up and acquire weaponry remains unaffected. Even so, some weapons will be unavailable until the player has spent enough time using a companion weapon.

These unlock trees provide an additional path to pursue in the game. It’s also meant to inspire experimentation with other firearms. After unlocking the necessary attachments, you can customize your weapons to your liking with the updated Gunsmith system.

MW2 offers a fast-paced and diverse campaign that feels like you’re at the centre of an action movie. While the multiplayer mode is below par, it provides a solid core which we hope the game developers will patch up in the coming months.
