FAS Launches New Search for Clubs to Join Singapore Premier League
FAS resumes its search for new SPL clubs, inviting local and foreign teams to apply for the 2025/2026 season. Proposals must demonstrate financial stability, player development, and community engagement. Deadline: March 14, 2025.
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has once again opened doors for the clubs to be a part of the Singapore Premier League (SPL), whether local or foreign in origin. This was on Wednesday, February 5, and thus this marks the second time within recent times the FAS is trying to enlarge the league by inviting some new teams.
This is a repeat of a similar exercise undertaken at the end of the 2023 SPL season. Despite several applications received then, no new clubs joined the league for the 2024/2025 season. FAS had given in-principle approval to one club, reportedly Tengah Football Club, but the club decided not to join because of prolonged due diligence and tight deadlines.
Fresh Attempt at League Expansion
FAS's re-launching its quest for an expanded SPL shows that it is keen to expand the nine-teams SPL to more teams. The association has shown interests in the inclusion of private and commercially driven clubs. The association believes that the idea of an expanded league will make for a much more exciting and competitive SPL.
According to FAS, the SPL aims to increase playing time for Singaporean footballers as it looks to strengthen fan engagement and overall matchday experiences. This is part of the larger objective for building the country's football ecosystem.
Application and Review Process
Interested parties will submit comprehensive proposals for participation in the SPL from the 2025/2026 season onwards. The application process breaks into three principal phases:
Application Stage, Evaluation Stage ,Renewal Stage
In consideration, clubs should submit a detailed proposal covering such key areas as:
Club overview, ownership, and management structure
Training facilities and infrastructure
Financial viability and sustainability plan
Player recruitment strategies (including women's football and youth development)
Coaching and technical structure for first, women's, and youth squads
Community and fan engagement plans
The clubs must be able to demonstrate their ability to contribute to the long-term success of the SPL and fit into FAS's broader vision. They must also provide proof of financial viability, meaning they can cover their operating expenses without external financial assistance.
Foreign Clubs and Licensing Regulations
Foreign clubs willing to join the SPL should obtain an endorsement letter from their respective member association. This will give the member association an opportunity to show their willingness and interest in joining the SPL, hence following the SPL and Asian Football Confederation club licensing rules.

Deadline for Proposals Submission
Submission of proposals will be done before 6 PM on March 14, 2025. After careful analysis of the proposals, the potential new entrants into the SPL will be selected.
