Ex-NFL Star Antonio Brown Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge After Miami Boxing Event

Miami-Dade County officials have issued an arrest warrant for former NFL star Antonio Brown, 36, charging him with attempted murder with a firearm. The warrant, signed on June 11, requires Brown to post a $10,000 bond and comply with house arrest, pending his trial.

The charge stems from a brawl that erupted around midnight on May 16 outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood. Police reports indicate Brown punched a man, retrieved a gun from a security guard, and fired two shots—one grazing the alleged victim’s neck.

Surveillance and cell phone footage reportedly show Brown initiating the confrontation, grabbing the firearm, and chasing the victim before gunfire rang out. Two spent shell casings and an empty holster were recovered at the scene, though authorities did not find a weapon on Brown upon restraint. Witnesses and the victim identified Brown in the footage.

After being detained and released by police that night, Brown claimed on social media that he was “jumped” by individuals attempting to steal his jewelry. He stated, “Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me”.

Brown’s post-NFL life has been marred by legal and financial troubles: a domestic battery charge, allegations of indecent exposure, unpaid debts, bankruptcy, and claims of CTE and erratic behavior.

A former Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler (928 receptions, 12,291 yards, 83 touchdowns), Brown’s rise from draft pick to NFL elite was overshadowed later by controversy. He has suggested that possible chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) may have influenced his conduct.

  • Police Action: Miami-Dade authorities are actively seeking Brown to serve the warrant.
  • Bond & Conditions: If arrested, Brown must post $10,000 and enter house arrest.
  • Legal Defense: His representative has not commented publicly.
  • Potential Penalties: In Florida, attempted murder with a firearm is a first-degree felony, potentially punishable by decades—or life—in prison.
