Former First Lady Michelle Obama has secured her second Grammy Award, aligning her accolades with those of her husband, Barack Obama.

Michelle Obama clinched the Grammy for Best Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling for her work on “The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times” during the pre-show of the 2024 Grammys. Her victory places her in the company of esteemed nominees such as Meryl Streep, Senator Bernie Sanders, William Shatner, and Rick Rubin. Notably, Michelle Obama was not present at the ceremony.

This triumph marks Michelle Obama’s second Grammy win in the same category, with her first Grammy earned for her memoir, “Becoming.” Meanwhile, Barack Obama secured his Grammys in the Best Spoken Word Album category with “Dreams from My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”

In addition to their Grammy successes, both Obamas received Emmy nominations last year. Michelle Obama garnered her first Emmy nomination alongside Oprah Winfrey for the Best Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special for “The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times.” Concurrently, the former U.S. President earned his second Emmy nomination for his role as narrator in the Netflix docuseries “Working: What We Do All Day.”

The 2024 Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah, featured stellar performances by SZA, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Joni Mitchell, U2, Billy Joel, Luke Combs, Burna Boy, and Travis Scott. Notable personalities such as Meryl Streep, Lionel Richie, Christina Aguilera, Maluma, Mark Ronson, Taylor Tomlinson, and Samara Joy graced the stage as presenters.

With nine nominations, SZA leads as the top contender, followed closely by Victoria Monét and Phoebe Bridgers with seven nominations each. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo each earned six nominations, contributing to a year where female acts dominate the nominations. Female artists represent all nominees in the top three categories, with the exception of Jon Batiste.

The Album of the Year category boasts a diverse array of contenders, including “SOS,” Taylor Swift’s “Midnights,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts,” Jon Batiste’s “World Music Radio,” Miley Cyrus’ “Endless Summer Vacation,” boygenius’ “The Record,” Lana Del Rey’s “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” and Janelle Monáe’s “The Age of Pleasure.”
