Peacock is set to unleash the return of the lovable reformed supervillain in a new family animated feature and companion series from DreamWorks Animation, inspired by the 2010 theatrical hit Megamind. The streaming service announced the dual launch date of March 1, dropping both the movie and all eight episodes of the companion series. Alongside this exciting news, Peacock unveiled the official movie trailer and introduced the voice cast for both projects.
Titled “Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate,” the 83-minute feature picks up immediately after the events of the 2010 DreamWorks theatrical feature, with Megamind transitioning from being Metro City’s supervillain to a superhero still figuring things out. The storyline unfolds as Megamind’s former villain team, The Doom Syndicate, makes a comeback. Now, our newly minted blue hero must maintain the appearance of evil until he can rally his friends – Roxanne, Ol’ Chum, and Keiko – to thwart his former evil teammates from launching Metro City to the Moon.
The adventure continues in the companion series, previously titled “Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City” and now known as “Megamind Rules!” The 8-episode series, each running 22 minutes, follows Megamind’s journey from supervillain to superhero, with a unique twist – he becomes the world’s first superhero influencer, thanks to his trusty brainbots recording everything.
The voice cast for both the movie and series includes:
- Keith Ferguson (Robot Chicken, DuckTales) as Megamind
- Laura Post (LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red) as Roxanne Ritchi
- Josh Brener (Silicon Valley, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Ol’ Chum
- Maya Aoki Tuttle (Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Destiny 2) as Keiko Morita
- Emily Tunon (Globos Negros) as Lady Doppler
- Talon Warburton (Echo Base) as Lord Nighty-Knight
- Scott Adsit (Big Hero 6, 30 Rock) as Pierre Pressure
- Chris Sullivan (This Is Us, Presence) as Behemoth
- Tony Hale (The Mysterious Benedict Society) as Mel/Mr. Donut
- Jeanine Mason (Upload; Roswell, New Mexico) as Christino Christo
- Adam Lambert (American Idol, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again) as Machiavillain
“Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate” and “Megamind Rules!” are executive produced by the original film’s writers, Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, along with Celebrity Deathmatch creator Eric Fogel, who also directs the feature. JD Ryznar serves as co-executive producer on both projects. The anticipated dual release promises to captivate audiences with the return of the iconic Megamind in a fresh and entertaining format.
