Story

Plot
“Go East” is a charming ancient costume comedy that transports viewers to the peaceful era of the Daming Dynasty. The series is adapted from Chen Jian’s novel “Venture To The West” and directed by Zhao Qichen, known for his work on “My Heroic Husband.” It tells the story of four determined individuals – Yuan Mo, A Shu, Wang Kunwu, and Yu Chihua – who are driven by their ideals to embark on a brave journey for their nation and justice.
Yuan Mo (played by Tan Jianci) is a commoner from Changle City, responsible for issuing permits to foreign visitors at the city gates using the Four Square Pavilion’s seal. His routine life takes a turn when he encounters A Shu (played by Zhou Yiran), a refugee from Yanle Kingdom trying to sneak into the city. Their altercation results in Wang Kunwu (played by Du Chun), a newly arrived border general, being punished and overseeing duties at the Four Square Pavilion.
Yuan Mo is subsequently pulled into the affairs of the Four Square Pavilion’s western office, where he becomes a minor official handling various international matters. Through a series of serendipitous events, A Shu becomes his “little maidservant,” Wang Kunwu becomes his superior, and the formidable Yu Chihua (played by Kan Qingzi), a noblewoman with power, joins the mix. Yuan Mo matures as he navigates through challenging diplomatic issues, earning the respect of those around him.
