Former “Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan has been arrested for domestic violence in Oregon. The arrest occurred on Friday after the Eugene Police Department responded to a report of a physical dispute between Bryan and an adult female at a residence in north Eugene.
Bryan, who played Tim Allen‘s oldest son on the hit show from 1991-1999, was booked in Lane County Jail with a charge of assault in the fourth degree. This arrest comes two years after he was convicted of menacing and assault constituting domestic violence in another case.

In February 2021, Bryan was sentenced to three years of bench probation with certain conditions, including participation in a batterer intervention program and no contact with the victim. Several other charges related to the October 2020 incident, including harassment, coercion, strangulation, and interference with making a report, were dismissed due to COVID restrictions causing a backlog of cases.
In the 2020 incident, the police found Bryan sitting outside the apartment, and his then-girlfriend, now-fiancée Johnnie Faye Cartwright, at a neighboring apartment. The altercation allegedly involved Bryan assaulting Cartwright, impeding her breathing, and taking away her phone when she tried to call 911.
Bryan addressed the arrest, stating that the incident was blown out of proportion and that the couple had been fighting due to the secrecy of their relationship while he was still married to Carly Matros, with whom he shares four children. He mentioned that the police brought multiple charges, but he eventually accepted two misdemeanors to avoid more stress and drama.
Since his time on “Home Improvement,” Bryan has had guest roles in various TV shows and appeared in movies such as “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and produced “The Kindergarten Teacher,” starring Maggie Gyllenhaal.
As of now, Zachery Ty Bryan remains in custody, and the legal proceedings surrounding the recent domestic violence charge are ongoing.
