Actor Christian Bale has revealed that he was paid the “absolute minimum” by his team for the 2000 film American Psycho. In a recent interview, Christian revealed that at first he thought he was making some money, but later found out he was paid less than his own makeup artist.
American Psycho is a 2000 horror film directed by Mary Harron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Guinevere Turner. The film stars Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, a New York investment banker who lives a double life as a serial killer. The film also stars Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, and Samantha Mathis. Adapted from the 1991 novel of the same name by Brett Easton Ellis, Christian said in an interview with GQ, “Honestly, my first thought was that it took me so long to do that and she wanted me to I paid the minimum amount they were legally allowed to pay me, and the house I shared with my father and sister was taken back. So the first thing I said was, ‘Oh my God, I have to make money to finish American Psycho,’ but as I was sitting in the makeup trailer, the makeup artist said, I remember laughing at me And that was my motivation after that. It was just, ‘I need to earn enough so my house won’t be taken back.’ “
When asked why he took the pay cut, he said, “Well, it was just my nature (American Psycho). Except for the director, no one wanted that from me. I said if I could pay for it, I would do it.” He gave me the role, so I prepared it for someone else to perform. I was still preparing. And as you know, it continued. I lost my heart and got it back. “
