Brittany Smith, the north Alabama woman convicted of killing the man she claims attacked and raped her in her home, is the subject of a new Netflix documentary premiering in November. True-crime documentary enthusiasts will want to check in to Netflix in early November, when a documentary documenting the case of the State of Alabama against Brittany Smith will be released. Netflix’s official description is as follows:

“This video explores the terrible story of a lady attempting to invoke Alabama’s Stand Your Ground law after killing a guy she claims savagely attacked her.”
Tripod Media, a prolific documentary production business that has released documentaries for Hulu, Apple TV+, Prime Video, and Netflix, produced the documentary. The Keepers, a significant Netflix documentary, was released in May 2017. Ryan White, who directed The Keepers, returns to direct this documentary as well. According to the legislation, “a person who is not involved in an unlawful action and is present in any place where he or she has the right to be has no duty to retire and has the right to stand his or her ground.” Todd Smith (no relation) was holding her brother, Chris McCallie, in a headlock and threatening to murder them all when Smith shot the revolver at him, according to Smith’s testimony in court. She also claimed that Todd Smith raped and strangled her earlier that night at her Stevenson home. Journalist Ashley Remkus confirmed through Twitter that her interviews will be included in the documentary. The Al.com reporter covered the court case extensively.

The new documentary will be available on Netflix worldwide on November 10th, 2022. It is rated 18 in the United Kingdom and TV-MA in the United States. So far in 2022, Netflix has produced or is planning to release over 50 documentary films with Netflix Original branding, not to mention the scores of docu-series Netflix has added. Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King, The Tinder Swindler, Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee, and Into the Deep: The Submarine Murder Case are some of Netflix’s true crime titles.
