According to a post on his Instagram account, James Wan, who directed the previous two Conjuring movies, the highly anticipated sequel to The Nun has officially started production in France, ushering in the newest chapter in the series. The message says, “The Nun 2 is now being photographed in France! Performing the exorcism (directing) on this one is @michaelchaves.”
The tweet includes a behind-the-scenes image of a priest character in a dimly lit setting with a film slate covering his face in addition to the announcement that The Nun 2 had started production. Wan’s message teases fans with the return of the recognizable iconography associated with the franchise, even if it didn’t provide any further narrative details for the planned sequel. The Nun 2’s premise is still unknown, however, it was originally said that the movie will take set in 1950s France. As the movie’s release date draws near, more information is probably going to be made public. As the legendary and terrifying titular creature returns to frighten viewers on September 8, 2023, fans still have time to conjecture and create anticipation.
Together with Taissa Farmiga, who portrayed Sister Irene in the original movie, Bonnie Aarons, who previously played the demonic figure, will return in the next sequel. The film will also include Storm Reid (The Invisible Man) in a leading role. The Conjuring sequel will be helmed by Michael Chaves, who previously helmed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The movie’s script was written by Akela Cooper (Malignant), with amendments made by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Together with Peter Safran, Wan acts as the project’s producer. Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear will serve as the movie’s executive producers.
With the release of The Conjuring 2 in 2016, The Nun initially frightened viewers. As a result of the character’s remarkable look, many people consider The Nun to be one of the film’s highlights. Since the character’s introduction, The Nun has become an iconic part of the Annabelle doll-like The Conjuring series. As a result of the character’s popularity, The Nun, a spinoff movie, made a successful box office debut in 2018 and earned $365.6 million globally despite receiving mixed reviews. Audiences can now go back to the scary horrors associated with the adored franchise since a sequel is finally on the way.
On September 8, 2023, The Nun 2 will be shown exclusively in cinemas.
