Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story fell to #2 on Friday, October 14, after spending the previous 21 days at the top of Netflix’s daily ranking of the most viewed TV shows. The Watcher snatched it up. Both true-crime limited series is produced by Ryan Murphy as part of his expansive contract with Netflix.

The prolific producer had some time to prepare the second set of episodes after the short turnaround for Hollywood and Halston early on in Murphy’s Netflix arrangement (Ratched and The Politician were pre-existing and not part of the pact). According to Deadline, officials at the streamer had been praising the new shows Dahmer and The Watcher, both of which were co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, for more than a year. Both shows looked promising and had the DNA of Murphy’s work.

With 701.37M hours seen in less than two weeks, Dahmer earlier this week overtook Stranger Things: Season 4 as the most-watched English-language Netflix series ever. The Evan Peters-led limited series “Serial Killer” has a chance to reach the 1 billion hours milestone within the first 28 days of the Netflix measurement window.

The Watcher, a thriller based on a true tale, stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. Murphy is also the producer of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, a horror movie from Blumhouse that has been #2 on Netflix for the last week.
