The release date for The Crown Season 5 on Netflix and what we know so far

The Crown Season 5

After a two-year break, the fifth and penultimate season of Netflix’s The Crown will return in November 2022 with a brand-new cast. Here is a summary of everything we know so far regarding season 5, including any recently revealed details thanks to Netflix Tudum. Each new season of The Crown since its debut in 2016 has seen growth. Millions of viewers have subscribed to the divisive drama because it explores the late Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign. The film The Queen from 2006 served as the inspiration for the Peter Morgan television series. The Crown has consistently ranked among the most expensive Netflix original series. The cost of production for the first season alone is reported to have been around $100 million.

The Crown season 5 new cast members?

Olivia Colman’s time as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown is gone, as it was for Claire Foy before her. Colman and the entire ensemble of The Crown’s third and fourth seasons will be replaced by a new cast portraying the older members of the Royal Family, respectively.

Camilla Parker Bowles – Olivia Williams : Emerald Fennell, one of the Royal Family’s most divisive members, was also terrific in her portrayal of Camilla, and we wished we could have seen more of her. Olivia Williams, best known for her appearances in The Postman and Peter Pan, will take over for Fennell (2003).

Prince Andrew – James Murray : Tom Bryne scarcely appeared in his role as Prince Andrew, yet his few television appearances created a lasting impression on viewers. James Murray, who previously played in Netflix’s enormously expensive action-thriller 6 Underground, will play the infamous royal figure.

Prime Minister John Major – Jonny Lee Miller : Former Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister John Major has yet to appear on The Crown, but his appearance will signal the end of Margaret Thatcher’s premiership and Gillian Anderson’s time on the show. Jonny Lee Miller, best known for his appearances in Trainspotting and Elementary, will play the conservative Prime Minister.

Claudia Harrison – Princess Anne : Erin Doherty was flawless as Princess Anne on The Crown, giving us an outstanding performance that ranks among the finest of the ensemble. Claudia Harrison, from Humans, has taken over as Princess Anne.

Elizabeth Debicki – Princess Diana : Elizabeth Debicki has taken up the role of Princess Diana from Emma Corrin. Despite only playing Princess Diana for one season, Emma Corrin delivered an unforgettable performance. Although there are only five years between Corrin and Debecki, no one can deny that the latter will deliver a great portrayal of Princess Diana in her final years. Marvel fans will know Debicki as Ayesha, the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Dominic West – Prince Charles : Dominic West has taken over as Prince Charles in place of Josh O’Connor. The choice of West has come as a significant surprise, and we’re eager to see how the actor will represent Prince Charles. Any casting of Prince Charles will undoubtedly be scrutinised, as the heir to the throne has a distinct appearance that few can match. West is most recognised for his role as Detective James McNulty on The Wire.

Lesley Manville – Princess Margaret : Lesley Manville takes over for Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. Both Vanessa Kirby and Helena Bonham Carter have performed admirably as Princess Margaret, and we expect Manville to follow in their footsteps. Manville is best recognised for her depiction of the fairy Flittle in the live-action films Maleficent and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Jonathan Pryce – Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh : Tobias Menzies has been replaced as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, by Jonathan Pryce. Both actors are well renowned for their roles in HBO’s Game of Thrones, although Pryce is best remembered for his role as Bond villain Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies. Pryce most recently portrayed his real-life doppelganger, Pope Francis, in the Netflix Original film The Two Popes.

Imelda Staunton – Queen Elizabeth II : Imelda Staunton has taken over as Queen Elizabeth II in place of Olivia Colman. She will play the eldest version of Queen Elizabeth II seen so far in The Crown. Staunton, like Foy and Colman before her, will play Queen Elizabeth II for two seasons. Imelda Staunton is most known for playing the evil Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series.

When will Season 5 of The Crown be available on Netflix?

Filming for season 5 was reportedly expected to begin in June 2021, but Variety recently announced that it would begin in July 2021. Suzanna Mackie, executive producer, may not be involved in the following season because she recently inked an exclusive output deal with Netflix through Orchid Pictures.
The Crown was featured at Netflix’s most recent TUDUM event, when it was confirmed that the fifth season will air on November 9th, 2022. When The Crown returns for season 5, an additional ten episodes will be accessible to stream.
