Two recently released Netflix movies have shot straight to the top of this week’s list, specifically to the #1 and #2 spots in their first week on the chart. This is one of the things that stands out, at least to me, about this week’s Netflix Top 10 list of the most watched movies globally on the streamer.

That seems to indicate that a sizable portion of members are still watching new high-profile Netflix shows almost as soon as they are released, which is encouraging for the streamer’s prospects as this industry becomes more and more competitive. As per usual, the list includes a mixture of recently released Netflix originals, vintage third-party films, and a few other miscellaneous items.

For instance, the newest Gerard Butler thriller Last Seen Alive and two more relatively recent Netflix releases, Blonde and Lou, round out the top five this week. In the meanwhile, below, we’ll have a closer look at the top two.

Netflix’s top films (October 3-October 9)

Number 1 on Netflix is Luckiest Girl Alive.

The first of the two is Luckiest Girl Alive, which debuted at #1 this week after accumulating a little over 43 million hours of viewing time from subscribers worldwide.

This Netflix film, which stars Mila Kunis, “focuses on Ani FaNelli, a sharp-tongued New Yorker who appears to have it all,” the streamer notes. A coveted job at a glitzy magazine, a fantastic outfit and an impending dream Nantucket wedding are all examples of “having it all.” Ani is forced to face a terrible reality that might upend her carefully manicured existence when the director of a crime documentary asks her to provide her side if she was a young student at the prestigious Brentley School when the awful event occurred.

It’s also worth noting that the fact that this Netflix film only recently became available for streaming on October 7 makes its #1 chart placement all the more remarkable; as a result, the film’s high rating is based on only three days’ worth of viewing time.

Number 2 on Netflix is Mr. Harrigan’s Phone.

Director John Lee Hancock’s adaptation of the Stephen King short story “If It Bleeds,” which appeared in the author’s 2020 collection of tales, is the #2 film on this week’s global Top 10 Netflix movies list.

What you need to know about Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’s backstory is provided here. A young child (Jaeden Martell) meets an older, reclusive millionaire (Donald Sutherland), and discovers that he can contact him via the iPhone that was buried with him after his demise, according to the Netflix synopsis. As of the time of this writing, the film made its debut on the streaming service a week ago (on October 5). Though it only had a little time to do so, it managed to move up to #2 on the weekly list of the best Netflix movies, thanks to this week’s watching figures of slightly more than 35 million hours.
