Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, shared his ideas for the third installment in the franchise and how it should handle Wolverine’s comeback.
In a conversation with host Brandon Davis of the Phase Zero podcast, Liefeld spoke candidly about his ideas for Wolverine’s role in the future movie. In general, he believed that the pair’s popularity would compel viewers to watch the film regardless of what the character did, while he believed that their propensity for mending would result in some gory scenes. “We could simply watch them travel across America, right? We could just watch them pass through a mall, right?” Liefeld was excited. “They are both therapeutic, after all. I can envision a one-off healing factor where the two just decapitate one another and sprout new limbs. Wolverine may also slash huge chunks of Deadpool off.”
The Deadpool 3 actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s video, which they created the day after announcing Wolverine’s return to the big screen, was then brought up by Liefeld. Friends since Reynolds’ widely panned debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as the Merc with a Mouth, the duo teased fans by blocking out sound as they ostensibly revealed the movie’s narrative. The pair had already “given us the memes,” according to Liefeld, and their improv may yet produce more.
The Much-Awaited Team-Up Between Wolverine and Deadpool
Fans who had assumed that their chance to see Jackman and Wolverine together again had vanished with Logan in his self-titled 2017 picture were indignant upon learning of his reappearance as the mutant in Deadpool 3. After learning of Wolverine’s comeback, a fan’s delight was recorded on camera in a TikTok video, which the actor even reposted. Reynolds said that his hands were shaking with excitement when he announced the news.
