It Would Make Margot Robbie “So Happy” to See Lady Gaga Play Harley Quinn in “Joker 2”

Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux hasn’t been officially announced, but it’s plausible, and Margot Robbie is totally on board with that perspective casting.

Since 2016’s Suicide Squad, Robbie has played the former Arkham Asylum doctor Quinn. She recently played Quinn in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, and she expressed her “happiness” if Gaga took up the character in the Joker sequel.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Robbie remarked, “It makes me so pleased because I said from the very beginning is that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way, like, Macbeth or Batman always gets transferred, you know, from great actor to great actor.”

Its kind of like someone gets to play Batman, or someone gets to play Macbeth, or someone, she said. And I feel like there aren’t many female characters in stories. Queen Elizabeth I is one of the rare female roles that have been handed off to other performers, according to Robbie, but there aren’t many more.

About Gaga possibly playing Quinn, Robbie remarked, “It’s such an honor to have developed a foundation solid enough that Harley may now be one of those characters that other actors get to take a try at playing.” “I hope she’ll accomplish something amazing with it,” she said.

In Joker 2, against the Clown Prince of Crime played by Joaquin Phoenix, Gaga has not yet been officially confirmed to play Quinn. Quinn, his former therapist who falls in love with him and joins him in crime, is infamous for the supervillain’s tumultuous on-and-off relationship with her.

If Gaga were to play the part in Phillips’ follow-up, her interpretation of the character would take place in a distinct DC Universe than Robbie’s, allowing both actresses to portray the schizophrenic-turned-criminal in different movies.

The cast of Joker: Folie à Deux is completed by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland. The movie is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024.
