There are many shocks in the finale of the Netflix original series The Imperfects, leaving fans to wonder if there will be a second season.

The Imperfects centres on Abbi, Juan, and Tilda, three AGDS Wellness Program patients who mysteriously acquire supernatural powers resembling succubi, chupacabras, and banshees due to the stem cells employed to cure their fictitious condition. The shadowy government agency Flux has other intentions for the doctor and his three flawed experiments as the group search for super-genius and renegade scientist Alex Sarkov in the hopes of discovering a cure. Alex appears to stop at nothing in his pursuit of research, from unleashing nanobot hell to betraying his closest and only friend, Dr Sydney Burke.
While Tilda sets off on her own once more and embraces her powers, Juan and Abbi receive treatment for the adverse effects of their AGDS from Dr Burke, who also uses it herself to get rid of Finch. The evil Dr Dominique Crain is eliminated by Agent Sponson, but she is quickly replaced by Dr Burke, who has a very startling connection to Flux and its alleged inventor, Dr Hallenbeck.
Because they wish to approach Sarkov in various ways, the Imperfects split off. By collaborating with Sarkov and delivering him the nanobots he needs for his grand scheme, Tilda betrays Abbi and Juan. After discovering proof that the nanobots are harmful, Tilda eliminates them and rejoins the team. Tilda and Abbi reconnect in order to save Juan and put an end to Sarkov once and for all after he strikes a deal with Finch and starts using Juan as a test subject for his new plot.

Tilda uses her sonic abilities to destroy Dr Monday’s nanobots, defeating Sarkov’s initial plan to utilise them to disperse his superpower-inducing stem cells in large quantities. As a result, Alex is forced to discover another method of dispersing his invention. Alex appears to accept Finch’s proposal in return for complete control over Dr Burke’s body as he starts conducting tests on Juan’s transformations for Finch.

At the conclusion of The Imperfects, Dr Burke appears to have healed Juan and Abbi, but it is obvious that their abilities are truly out of control due to Juan’s hands turning into claws, Abbi becoming encased in a cocoon, and Finch seizing control of Dr Burke. Abbi learns that because Hallenbeck’s DNA is based on Sarkov’s, and because Hallenbeck has his own “superpower,” Juan and Abbi are never truly cured. Alex builds the cure using his own DNA. Dr Nate Lang (Kai Bradbury), who appeared to be free of his terrible side effects, was the only other person to get Sarkov’s treatment. However, Tidal murdered Nate immediately after the treatment was given, so there is no way to know if he was indeed saved.
