Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman made Marvel fans squeal with delight when it was revealed in a now-viral video that Wolverine is returning in the upcoming Shawn Levy flick, Deadpool 3. Reynolds discussed his anticipation and trepidation for his close friend to reprise his role as Wolverine in the eagerly anticipated threequel in an interview with Forbes.

Reynolds has expressed his enthusiasm about working with Jackman. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Reynolds said in the interview. He further said, “I mean, especially to do it this way. Ultimately, I get to work with some of my closest friends in the world and that doesn’t happen every day working in this business.”

Reynolds continues by saying that he is eager to collaborate with Jackman and is as thrilled as the fans to see him take on the legendary role once again. “I feel the same way that the fans do, though. I feel as excited that this character is coming back for another ride, particularly in this context. I think it’s something that people have wanted for a long time, to get this pairing up on the big screen, and that’s what we aim to do.”

Reynold played Weapon XI as a member of Team X in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which also starred Jackman. The two had previously announced their reunion in a popular Twitter video in which Reynolds questioned Jackman,”Hey, Hugh. You wanna play Wolverine one more time?” Jackman responds to this by saying, “Yeah. Sure, Ryan.” In the Forbes interview, the Deadpool actor admits that he had been waiting for weeks to release the teaser video and related explanation information. He said, “I’m thrilled and I’ve been sitting on those couple of teasers for a few weeks. It’s one of those moments where you’re hitting send or a tweet or a post your hand is shaking when you’re messing with the zeitgeist in a way like that.”

Although it is unclear exactly how Wolverine will return, fans believe it will involve multiversal antics given the MCU’s expanding research of the Multiverse. As is customary for Marvel, the movie’s plot information have been kept carefully under wraps. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers for Deadpool, will return to the project, which will be directed by Shawn Levy of Free Guy. The release of Deadpool 3 is set for September 6, 2024.
