It is really challenging to attempt to turn a prevalent scenario into a novel plot because the action-packed robbery thriller has been done to death at least 100 times over. With his 2016 film Marauders, director Steven C. Miller did the exact opposite, leaning hard into a structure that checks almost every single uninspired and unimaginative box you can think of.

And yet, based on how the critically derided genre film has been performing on the platform’s worldwide rankings, that seems to be exactly what Netflix users are in the mood for this weekend. According to FlixPatrol, Marauders reached the stratospheric heights of being the streamer’s sixth most popular title internationally after being in the Top 10 in a whopping 21 countries (and topping the charts in 12 of them).

But no one walked into Marauders with exceptionally high hopes since it’s a B-tier criminal thriller starring Bruce Willis in a minor role. The star as mentioned above’s 2010s filmography has a 24 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, which is about average, but the 19 percent user rating stands out like a sore thumb. Fans typically give movies like this far more latitude than critics, but in this case, that didn’t apply, which says it all.

The FBI’s resources are stretched thin over the course of a series of bank heists, which ultimately prove to be part of the plan as a high-level conspiracy starts to come into focus. This is action moviemaking by numbers. Join the vast group of Netflix users who have been watching Marauders if clichés are what you’re looking for. If not, keep your distance.
