Netflix has published the complete trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, just in time for Halloween, according to TVLine. Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated horror anthology series, from the mind behind Pan’s Labyrinth and the next stop-motion animated film, has a premiere date. Cabinet of Curiosities, directed by Guillermo del Toro, will be released on October 25, just in time for Halloween. On Friday, Netflix also published a new trailer previewing more of the collection to viewers.
The two-minute film, which differs from the series’ first-look teaser released in August, showcases the eight stories that will be recounted over the course of four days, completing the series days before Halloween. According to TVLine, del Toro will present the twisted tales a la Rod Sterling of The Twilight Zone. Del Toro described the passion project in his own words as a way “to illustrate the reality lying outside of our usual world: the abnormalities and curiosities.” We hand-picked and curated a bunch of stories and storytellers to bring these stories to life, whether they come from outer space, otherworldly mythology, or simply within our brains,” according to Deadline.
“The Autopsy” is based on a short story written by Michael Shea (The Mines of Behemoth) and adapted for the cinema by The Sandman’s David S. Goyer. F. Murray Abraham of Moon Knight, Glynn Turman (Fargo), and Luke Roberts of Ransom are among the prominent cast members. David Prior will direct the film (The Empty Man). “Graveyard Rats,” based on a short story by Henry Kuttner, will be directed by David Hewlett (Traders) (The Dark World). This installment’s writer and director is Vincenzo Natali (Splice).
Tim Blake Nelson, an actor most known for playing Watchman, has been cast in del Toro’s original screenplay “Lot 36.” Nelson’s co-stars include Elpidia Carrilo (Nine Lives), Demetrius Grosse (The Rookie), and Sebastian Roché (The Originals). With Regina Corrado (The Strain) penning the script, Guillermo Navarro (Cocaine Godmother) will be the director. Dreams in the Witch House stars Ismael Cruz Cordova, who is presently seen in The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power on Amazon Prime. Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), DJ Qualls (Z Nation), Tenika Davis (The Perfect Wedding), and Rupert Grint join Cordova (Servant). The narrative is based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, a master of horror (The Cats of Ulthar). Catherine Hardwicke (Miss Bala) is helming the adaptation, which was written by Mika Watkins (Origin).
The eight-part anthology series’ eight episodes each centre on a different group of humans who are unfortunate enough to come into contact with a ghost, monster, or just plain spooky murderer. This trailer focuses entirely on the finished product, unlike August’s first look, which was more about the show’s development. In addition to establishing the tone for each story and highlighting the variety of performers and storylines that are presented, it also showcases the use of actual effects. All of these seem intriguing, but the one that grabs my attention is Rupert Grint, who has been frequently appearing in horror films lately thanks to this and Servant on Apple TV.
