Collider’s Steven Weintraub got the chance to speak with Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmaker combination that brought the world both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, during Netflix’s press tour for the eagerly awaited action thriller The Gray Man. But the team is far from finished captivating viewers; for one of their forthcoming projects as producers, they are changing up a franchise that was started by the film Extraction, which was hailed as one of the greatest of 2020.
Adding another blockbuster
Extraction 2 would not be a surprise if Netflix were to just follow the blueprint and add another surefire blockbuster to their library given the success of the first movie. As prior statements have made clear, the only consistency in the sequel appears to be Chris Hemsworth as the title character, as the upcoming action film is turning 180 degrees to give audiences something wholly unexpected. Joe Russo, the script’s author, emphasised the following throughout the interview:
If you haven’t been following the news about Extraction 2, Russo is alluding to the fact that the sequel is leaving its sweltering Bangladesh setting and moving to a new, icy locale. Hemsworth was seen in a teaser video posted by the Russo brothers earlier this year riding a train. According to what the actor hinted at back in March, the stunt would reportedly be a part of one of the sequel’s most iconic feats. A 12-minute continuous take in an action scene in the first movie elevated it to a must-see status; reportedly, they’re hoping to pull off another outrageous stunt.
Tyler Rake enters the world of drug and weapon
In the first Extraction, Hemsworth plays black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake, who is sent on a mission to save the kid of a major international drug lord. He enters a world of drug and weapon dealers as a result of his assignment. The script by Joe Russo will once again be directed by Sam Hargrave. The tale was inspired by the graphic novel Ciudad.
Extraction 2’s filming was finished in April, but Netflix hasn’t released a trailer or a release date. when we hear more.
