Do you recall the news that a movie will be made about the widely reported defamation case involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, an ex-couple? There is now a trailer for it. And so it is. something. The free streaming site Tubi has a movie called “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial” that seeks to dramatize (and, let’s be honest, sensationalize) the trial and the events leading up to it, including their connection. One is unsure if the trailer is a spoof or intended to be taken seriously, which gives it a vibe akin to the Hunter Biden film “My Son Hunter.” The tone is sardonic whether on purpose or accidentally, not the excellent production value.

The trailer is available for viewing above. It’s pretty likely that the performers, Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as Heard, were chosen for their likeness to the topics. The director is Sara Lohman, well known for her work on “Good Satan,” “Grace and Frankie,” and “The Blind Side.” The movie is intriguing and undoubtedly worth seeing. Since it will debut on Tubi, it will be free and only need a small investment of your time. Hot Take: On September 30, The Depp/Heard Trial will be available for streaming.

The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial made news due to the high level of celebrity involvement as well as the newly revealed unsavory aspects of their tumultuous marriage. The trial was also shown on television, which allowed Depp and Heard’s (mostly Depp’s) admirers to steal bits and remix them creatively on social media platforms like Tiktok. This caused a lot of what ought to have been a major issue to be minimized.

The trial, which took place in Fairfax, Virginia, was won by Depp. Heard had written an opinion piece for the Washington Post with the heading “I stood up against sexual violence and faced our culture’s anger. He had sued her for it because “that has to change.”Depp sought defamation even though she had not mentioned him by name.

Depp received a $10 million damage award at the trial’s conclusion. Heard was also given $2 million in compensation for the “defamation” she suffered at the hands of Heard’s attorney, who claimed she had invented a fake. Heard has often accused Depp of using physical and psychological abuse, but Depp has refuted these claims. Before Fairfax, Depp had lost a libel case in London against News Group Newspapers after the company’s newspaper The Sun referred to him as a “wife-beater.” The court had deemed Heard’s allegations to be “basically accurate.”

The US Trial, a two-part documentary series, was also made available on Discovery+ earlier this month.
