BLACKPINK, who recently made a comeback with their second full-length album “Born Pink,” reentered the artist #100 chart at No. 1 this week, marking the group’s second time reaching its highest-charting position. Being at the top of the Artist 100 chart for numerous weeks makes BLACKPINK the first female group in history.

Additionally, the Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales charts both saw the release of Born Pink at No. 1. The group’s sophomore album became the first by a female K-Pop group to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, this week’s Billboard Global 200 and Global 200 Excl. US charts placed BLACKPINK’s most recent single, Shut Down, at No. 1, with Pink Venom coming in at No. 2 on both charts.

Atop the World Digital Song Sales chart this week, “Shut Down” also debuted at No. 1 on the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. Additionally, BLACKPINK returned to No. 1 on Billboard’s Artist 100, becoming the chart’s second-highest-charting act. Last but not least, Shut Down debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, while BLACKPINK’s pre-release single “Pink Venom” re-entered the chart at No. 57 for the fifth week running.

The success of Blackpink is not unexpected. This girl group was formed with the intention of dominating the charts by the dominant South Korean record label YG Entertainment. At 2016, Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé teamed up after years of training in a sort of academy. They practised singing, rapping, and dancing there while competing against a dozen other young girls who shared their goal of becoming K-pop stars. In 2019, Jennie explained to Billboard that “someone would come in with a piece of paper and place it on a wall, and it would show who performed best, who did worst, and who’s going home.” Since then, Blackpink’s life has appeared to be going swimmingly.
