Moonrise, one of Netflix’s most anticipated new anime projects, is presently in development. Moonrise, featuring Hiromu Arakawa’s character designs from Full Metal Alchemist and the animation talents of WIT Studio, will be the anime to watch on Netflix in 2024. Masahi Koizuka is the director of the upcoming Japanese Netflix Original sci-fi animation series Moonrise. Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of the popular Full Metal Alchemist franchise, created the character designs for Moonrise. WIT Studio, known for their work on Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Spy x Family, Ousama Ranking, and Great Pretender, will be in charge of the animation.
What’s the story behind Moonrise?
Moonrise’s plot summary was taken from MyAnimeList: Year TS 2XXX AD. A “calm world government” has been established by humanity. The international AI network Sapientia was in charge of everything, and everyone lived by their best judgement. But Sapientia’s “moon reclamation project” sparked a rift between the Earth, which upholds peace by sending polluters and criminals to the moon, and the moon, which is forced to dwell in squalor and becomes a source of fuel for the War of Independence.
The short story’s protagonist Jack recalls a song about a lovely ocean as he travels across the basins of black basalt that now make up 35% of the moon’s surface following a meteor hit. This is merely a brief glimpse into the world of Moonrise. Jack experiences claustrophobia in his suit as he guides the reader through the current situation of human society after the first “Moon People” landed. This area is known as the “Sea of Crises” for a reason.
The screenplays for Psycho-Pass 2 and RWBY: Ice Queendom, as well as the Mardock Scramble movie series, are what author Tow Ubukata is best known for. He has more experience than just anime, though. Ubukata has undoubtedly established himself as a well-known author and writer for Japan’s Newtype magazine, although in several capacities.
When will Moonrise be available on Netflix?
We now know for sure that Moonrise will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2024 thanks to the teaser trailer.
