What We Know So Far About the Tomb Raider Netflix Anime Series

Tomb Raider

A brand-new animated series based on the Tomb Raider video game property, produced by Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix, and Legendary Television, will debut on Netflix in 2023. Tomb Raider is a brand-new animated series project that will only be available on Netflix, and it was first unveiled alongside an anime project for Skull Island back in January 2021.
On its own website, Netflix describes the project as a Japanese anime action series that is “a road trip adventure.” The project’s IMDb description is as follows:
Follows Lara Croft as she travels across unfamiliar territory.

The Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies brought the Tomb Raider series, which has been around since the mid-1990s and is one of the most successful gaming franchises in history, to the big screen. There have been 17 video games in the franchise overall, and a new game is supposedly in the works. In just 5 years, the game will celebrate its 30th birthday (feel old yet?).

The two Angelina Jolie films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The Cradle of Life, are among the three films based on the video game IP that have already been made. In 2018, Alicia Vikander starred in a reboot, and Warner Brothers is currently working on a sequel. The events of the Square Enix trilogy of games, which were released between 2013 and 2018, will be picked up in the new series shortly after they have concluded.

Who is participating in the Tomb Raider Netflix series?

Tasha Huo, who is presently working on three projects, including Tomb Raider, leads the writing staff. Millenium Films’ other two projects are Black Belle and Red Sonja, both starring Hannah John-Kamen. Huo spoke about the upcoming series on the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider, claiming it will “unify the timeframes of Tomb Raider” and go “beyond the surviving trilogy.”

Episodes of Tomb Raider are apparently being directed by Joey Soloway. Their work on Transparent on Amazon Prime is what made them most famous. Along with Legendary Television, Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix, DJ2 Entertainment, and Tractor Pants, the Netflix series is produced by these companies. Powerhouse Animation Studios, the animation studio behind Netflix’s Castlevania and which most recently inked a first-look contract with Netflix, will work on the project. They are based in Austin, Texas. Executive producers include Howard K. Bliss, Stephan Vladimir Bugaj, Dmitri M. Johnson, and Jacob Robinson.

Where is the Tomb Raider series being made?

Tasha Huo said in late May 2021 that they’ve completed the writing phase, which means it’s now up to the animators and voice artists to bring the words on paper to life. They celebrated appropriately by tossing axes. Several photographs of the writers meeting via Zoom were uploaded on Twitter throughout the writing process (it was being written during the COVID-19 pandemic).

Which Tomb Raider characters will make an appearance in the Netflix series?

Let’s start with the obvious, then. Lara Craft will undoubtedly appear in Tomb Raider. On September 13th, it was revealed that Hayley Atwell, best known for her roles as Peggy Carter in Captain America and Agent Carter, would be lending her voice to Lara. We can confirm that Zip will feature in one of the Netflix’s series’ episodes.
Zip appeared in both the original timeline and the Legends timeline; however, based on the cast lineup, it looks that the character in the Netflix series will be more similar to the Legends timeline Zip. His character description for the new series is as follows:

Hacker and technology nerd. Zip infiltrated one of their rivals’ databases before being found by Croft Industries. They hired him and still provide him handsome money.
Allen Maldonado had been hired to play Zip, according to a Square Enix announcement made in October 2021 to mark the game’s 25th anniversary. In the Tomb Raider series, Jonah Maiava will be portrayed by Earl Baylon. Trese and Dynasty Warriors on Netflix both include the voice actor. Jonah was famously voiced in the games by Baylon.

One of several well-known video games getting Netflix adaptations is the series. As you may be aware, Netflix is also entering the video game industry. There are presently more than a dozen mobile games accessible. According to rumours, Tomb Raider will soon be included to Netflix’s library of video games, and Tomb Raider Reloaded is planning a rerelease on Netflix Games.
