A brand-new promo for Paul Feig’s The School of Good and Evil was shown as the first segment of Netflix’s worldwide fan event Tudum came to an end. The movie, which is an adaptation of Soman Chainani’s best-selling book series, offers a novel approach to fairy tales by following two young girls as they are transported to a magical school where all fables are created.
Sophia Anne Caruso, Sofia Wylie, Charlize Theron, and Kerry Washington are among the prominent protagonists in the new video. The video explains how the magical school operates by saying that “your finger light helps you become conscious of the power within of you.” Theron’s persona goes on to say that the light indicates that the students have started to access emotions strong enough to cast a spell. Washington’s persona goes on to say that more intense emotions enable more potent magic. The video then cuts to Caruso’s character, who will play a villain in the movie, showing up to activate her abilities.

Sophie (Caruso) and Agatha (Wylie), best friends who are also students at the magical school for fairytales, go on an adventure in The School for Good and Evil. Despite their near proximity, Agatha and Sophie couldn’t be more different, with Sophie being the daughter of a witch and a complete outcast, making her destined for the School of Evil, while Agatha is an aspiring fairytale princess like Snow White with a personality to match. But when they get there, the reverse of what they anticipate happens, forcing them to face their true selves. Their relationship is put to the test as they set off on a dangerous adventure together because of their new duties.
The distinguished Laurence Fishburne portrays The School Master, while Denise Washington and Charlize Theron play the deans of the School of Good and Evil, respectively. While she won’t be visible on television because she will be narrating the experience, Cate Blanchett is also travelling with the group. Mark Heap, Jamie Flatters, Freya Parks, Kit Young, Peter Serafinowicz, Rachel Bloom, and Patti LuPone complete the cast. Michelle Yeoh also appears.
Along with writing the script with Laura Solon and David Magee, Feig also directed the movie. Joe Roth, Jane Startz, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, and Laura Fischer of Feigco are also involved in the production, and Chainani, Zack Roth, and Patricia Riggen are the executive producers. It has taken a while for this adaptation to happen, with companies reportedly talking about movies based on the novel before its 2013 publication. If all goes according to plan, Netflix might have a fully developed franchise akin to Harry Potter with the series now having six books and this star-studded adaptation.
