The idea of a follow-up to Sony’s critically reviled Spider-Man spinoff has been revived because to Morbius’ unexpected success on Netflix. Without any prior publicity, the movie debuted on Netflix and immediately moved up the list of the top 10 movies available on the streaming service. Morbius had a dismal opening weekend gross of just $39 million, which wasn’t a complete disaster given the movie’s $75 million budget. It also received poor reviews from critics and consumers.

Sony decided to rerelease the movie after the “It’s Morbin’ Time” meme went viral, which resulted in a dismal $300,000 weekend box office haul for Morbius. Given that Morbius is currently Netflix’s second-most-watched movie, it’s very feasible that renewed interest will prompt Sony to approve the Morbius sequel.

There are currently no plans for Morbius 2, although there are ideas for Madame Web, another Venom sequel, and a spinoff movie starring superhero wrestler El Muerto. It’s possible that Sony is holding off on making more Spider-Man-related films until it sees how well these other films do at the box office.

Morbius 2 is not currently scheduled to appear on Sony’s list of Spider-Man-related films to be released between now and June 2024. The final moments of Morbius imply that a sequel would show Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona) adjusting to her new vampire physiology and either becoming Michael’s ally or enemy. Additionally, it would probably expand on Adrian Toomes’ introduction to Michael Morbius during the mid-credits.

There has been no sequel confirmed by Sony, therefore all that is known about Morbius 2 is the probable narrative aspects and casting. It’s also unknown how much Sony’s intentions for their big-screen Sinister Six, which currently bears no similarity to the one from the comics, would be impacted by the negative response to Morbius. The Suicide Squad currently resembles a Spider-Man villain gang more than the deadly supervillain group from the comics. Regardless of the format, viewers are still likely to see Michael Morbius at least once more, even if it isn’t in a straight sequel to Morbius.
