Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary won an award at the Emmy Awards 2022, which were held earlier this week. Jimmy Kimmel continued to perform a comedy skit on stage after she finished her victory speech, which seemed to make her uncomfortable. For the same, Kimmel faced a lot of internet criticism, and recently, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live apologised to Brunson.

Jimmy expressed his regret to Brunson during her participation on the show, saying, “I’m sorry I did do that, actually. And also, the last thing I would ever want to do was upset you because I think so much of you. And I think you know that I hope you know that.” The creator of Abbott Elementary acknowledged Jimmy’s regret but declared that she was unconcerned with the surrounding events. “I had a fantastic night,” she said.

Will Arnett and Jimmy Kimmel presented the award for best writing in a comedy series at the Monday Emmys. After Kimmel lost in his category, Arnett hauled him onto the stage and said that the host drank one too many margaritas. After winning an Emmy, Brunson told reporters backstage that Kimmel “didn’t disturb me that much,” added that she would be a guest on his show the following day, and joked that she “might smack him in the face.” After winning for best writing for a comedy series on Monday night, Brunson received her first Emmy. After Larry Wilmore and Lena Waithe, she is the second Black woman and third Black person to receive a writing award for a comedy series.

Sheryl Lee Ralph expressed her opinions in response to Jimmy Kimmel’s joke. Ralph, who won her own Emmy that evening for best supporting comedy actress, was of the opposite opinion. “I was absolutely confused. I didn’t know what was going on,” she said. She added, “I was like, ‘I wish that man would just get up off of the ground.’ And then I realized it was Jimmy Kimmel, and I was like, ‘Ooh, the disrespect, Jimmy!’ But that’s just me.” She continued, “Sorry! I’m so sorry, it was lovely that he was lying on the floor during her wonderful acceptance speech!”
