On January 1, 2023, when star Hugh Jackman leaves his role as Professor Harold Hill after a year, the producers of the Broadway smash musical revival The Music Man will put an end to the production’s flourishing run.

According to Kate Horton, who produced alongside Barry Diller and David Geffen, “I am thrilled that Hugh and Sutton [Foster] will continue to bring their special magic to the stage right through to the end of 2022 so that we can properly close out what has been a triumphant year for our entire industry.”

The Music Man, the largest new success of the 2021–2022 Broadway season, has performed to 402,017 spectators while consistently breaking house records at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Jerry Zaks’ production of the Meredith Wilson musical will have completed 358 regular performances and 46 previews by the time it ends.

Due to his attendance at film festivals in Venice and Toronto to promote Florian Zeller’s The Son, in which Jackman received positive reviews for his performance, Jackman has missed several recent performances.

Here is Horton’s full declaration:

Hugh and Sutton’s outstanding company, which works tirelessly to delight our audiences every night, is something we are proud of. To appropriately close up what has been a successful year for our whole business, I’m happy that Hugh and Sutton will continue to bring their special enchantment to the stage up to the end of 2022. Most of all, we are eternally appreciative of the trust and support of our viewers, whose passion for our program has endured even the most challenging challenges a worldwide epidemic could throw our way. Although we would like for this journey to continue forever, all wonderful things must come to an end.
