Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown’s popularity on Netflix has soared in recent days. The series is now one of the most popular shows in the world in advance of season 5’s release on the streaming service later this year.
As you’ve undoubtedly heard, on September 8th, Queen Elizabeth II died at age 96. The monarch’s 70-year reign as the Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms comes to an end with her death. We’ve seen 24-hour coverage of the various news-related events, and it’s clear that many people are either rewatching or discovering The Crown on Netflix.

The renowned Netflix series premiered in 2016, and since then, four seasons have been made available, with two more on the way. From her uncle’s abdication of the throne to Queen Elizabeth’s coronation and the ups and downs of the Royal Family over the past seven decades, the show has attempted to chronicle the reign of the Queen in its entirety. Peter Morgan, the showrunner of The Crown, called the series a “love letter” to Queen Elizabeth.

The Crown has returned to Netflix’s global Top 10 list

According to Netflix’s top 10 data, the show is making a comeback in the top 10s worldwide, not just in the UK and the US. External demand (as measured by data from Reddit, Wikipedia, Twitter, Google Trends, and IMDb) indicates that the show has also grown in popularity.
