Box Office: “Barbarian” Opens at $10 million in Los Angeles

Barbarian Georgina Campbell Still Hulu Publicity H 2022

At the American box office, the brand-new horror film Barbarian outperformed expectations and took first place for the weekend with $10 million in revenue from 2,340 screens.

This puts the highly regarded movie far above its anticipated $5 million to $6 million start. Nevertheless, the weekend following Labor Day was quieter than typical. Not to add, the autumn film festivals are the main priority for the majority of the film business. Toronto has officially begun, and Steven Spielberg’s The Fablemans, which had its world debut there before opening in theatres in November, immediately generated Oscar talk. Sony’s The Woman King, another well-known Toronto entry, makes its box office debut the following weekend.

Barbarian made a lot of money from 20th Century Studios and New Regency, and these two companies accounted for 29% of the whole revenue.

The bulk of the audience members was in the 18 to 34 age range. The film had a C+ CinemaScore from moviegoers, but received far higher marks from critics, with a current Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 92 percent for Barbarian.

Barbarian had its international premiere this weekend in minor Latin American countries before making its debut the following weekend in Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia.

In this unpredictable movie, Georgina Campbell plays a young lady who arrives late at night at a rented property in a run-down Detroit area only to discover that it is already occupied by Bill Skarsgard’s character, another renter. Zach Cregger makes his solo feature film debut with Barbarian.

Naturally, Skarsgard portrayed the evil clown Pennywise in the two Stephen King It movies, which debuted after Labor Day. In terms of high-profile movies being released in early September, which had previously been a slow season, it helped bring in a new era.

A setback for the summer box office comeback is the lack of event titles in September 2022. The lack of studio tentpoles is a result of pandemic-related supply chain problems.

The weekend’s total income is predicted to be roughly $39 million, down more than 70% from 2019 when Chapter Two debuted and 35.3 percent from 2021.

Among the weekend’s other new releases is the Bollywood film Bramastra Part 1: After earning $2 million on Friday, Shiva earned $4.4 million from 810 theatres to position No. 2. The movie had the biggest domestic Imax release ever for a Bollywood production. Star Studios was acquired by Disney when in acquired 20th Century.

Kirk Cameron’s faith-based film Lifemark, which is aiming for a 7th-place finish with an estimated $2.2 million from 1,560 venues, was released by Fathom over the quiet Labor Day weekend.

The 2022 English-language Czech historical drama Medieval, which Petr Jákl is directing, was released by Variance in 1,311 runs. The film is anticipated to earn less than $1 million and land at No. 15.

With $3.25 million and a new position in the top 10 in its seventh weekend, Sony’s Bullet Train earned No. 3 with a domestic gross of $92.5 million.

Top Gun: Maverick, now in its 16th weekend, wasn’t far behind, bringing in an additional $3.17 million for a domestic total of $705.7 million and $1.45 million internationally.
