Amazon Prime has cancelled its science-fiction series Paper Girls after only one season as reported by Deadline. According to the report, Legendary TV will shop the series to audiences looking for dramas with young female characters at the centre, similar to HBO’s Euphoria and Sex Lives of College Girl. Stephany Folsom created the series for Prime Video. Paper Girls is a science-fiction drama based on Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s graphic novels of the same name.
It follows four 12-year-old girls, Erin, Mac, KJ, and Tiffany, who get caught between warring factions of teenage time-travelers while out delivering newspapers in 1988. They send the girl group on a time-traveling adventure to save the world. As the girls travel through time, they meet future versions of themselves and must decide whether to accept or reject their fate. The series is entertaining to watch as the girls arrive in 2019 and attempt to navigate technological advancements such as Alexa, mobile phones, and tampons! It gets more interesting as the girls meet their future selves; Erin is a struggling and barely functioning paralegal in the future. Tiffany is a lighting designer who graduated from MIT. Similarly, future KJ has a large number of secrets.
Season 1 debuted on the streaming service in July to positive reviews from both fans and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a 90 percent critics score and an 88 percent audience score, making it a lucrative prospect for Legendary. Sofia Rosinksy as Mac, Camryn Jones as Tiff, Riley Lai Nelet as Erin, Fina Strazza as KJ, Ali Wong as Future Erin, Sekai Aben as Future Tiffany, Delia Cunningham as Adult KJ, and others star in the series.
Before the latter, who also served as series creator, left the series after Season 1, Christopher C. Rogers and Stephany Folsom served as co-showrunners. Rogers and Folsom, as well as Christopher Cantwell, Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Steven Prinz, and Brad Pitt’s Plan B, executive produce Paper Girls. Paper Girls Season 1 is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
