The 79th Venice International Film Festival is coming to a close, but they left one of the most eagerly awaited movies for last. The international premiere of Blonde, an Andrew Dominik film with Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, takes place Thursday night during a competition.

The almost three-hour-long epic, which is based on a Joyce Carol Oates work of biographical fiction, explores the public and private lives of the Hollywood legend from her turbulent early years as Norma Jeane to her international fame as Marilyn Monroe. De Armas, a Cuban-born performer, prepared for a year with the help of a dialect coach.

Adrien Brody portrays Arthur Miller in Blonde, while Bobby Cannavale plays Joe DiMaggio. No one under the age of 17 is permitted to view the Netflix movie in a cinema since it is produced by Brad Pitt’s firm Plan B and is the first picture ever created by the streamer to receive the NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association.

From September 16 to September 23, the movie will be shown in a few US theatres before being made accessible on Netflix. It is one of several Oscar contenders making their debut at Venice, where it is also one of the movies competing for festival honors on September 10.
