It’s been a long time since Netflix last brought us a new season of The Crown, but the wait is almost over for the many admirers of the iconic royal drama that are out there. The Crown has received critical acclaim and high viewing numbers throughout its first four seasons, making it one of the most well-liked original series to come from the streaming giant. As such, there is a good chance that season five will be yet another big success for the service once it finally debuts.

However, with a new actress taking on the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth season of The Crown, the program will be quite different. Before Olivia Colman took over for seasons three and four, which focused on Her Majesty’s middle years of the monarchy, Claire Foy established the role for the first two seasons, which covered the monarch’s early years on the throne. Imelda Staunton will wear the title’s titular crown for season five as well as the show’s forthcoming sixth and final season.

When will the fifth season of The Crown debut?

The Crown has adhered to a regular release schedule throughout its run on Netflix, in contrast to the majority of series, which have erratic release schedules. Every season has been made available in November or December, with a year passing between each change in the cast. Therefore, the first and second seasons appeared in 2016 and 2017, the third season followed in 2019, and so on.

So, season five is scheduled to debut on Netflix this winter after missing 2021. Only that it would arrive somewhere in November 2022 has been verified thus far. The anticipated new season will reportedly include 10 episodes. Again, based on prior seasons, we can probably anticipate that the sixth season will conclude the Windsors’ story around late 2023.

Although a trailer hasn’t yet been published, a specially filmed teaser featuring Staunton was made available last autumn (see above). In the upcoming weeks, further information, including a precise release date, will be provided.
