A new group of fans is watching The Wheel of Time adaptation on Amazon Prime Video during this significant month for high fantasy on television. Whether you’ve been following along since the beginning or are just catching up, you’re curious about the release date for Season 2. Here is a summary of all the information we have thus far.

The Wheel of Time is a film version of Robert Jordan’s similar-titled book series. It debuted in November 2021, kicking off a flurry of new fantasy programs created in search of the “next Game of Thrones.” Even while it was a hit on its own, the release of House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power last month reminded fans how eager they were for more fantasy media. This week, according to Amazon, social media was buzzing with new interest, which recorded a sharp increase in views.

For casual TV watchers, The Wheel of Time is the ideal sequel to Game of Thrones in many respects. Its map is as expansive and detailed, and it makes inventive use of well-known themes. The series’ first season may be watched on Prime Video, and all 14 volumes are currently available in print, digital, or audiobook editions. Here is what we now know about the upcoming season in the meantime.

Renewal

Months before Season 1 ever started, Amazon announced in May 2021 that The Wheel of Time will return for a second season. The COVID-19 epidemic badly interfered with the production of the show, but the renewal allowed them to resume filming as soon as they got the opportunity.

Amazon once more picked up the show for a third season in July 2022. Since there was no information on the second season, it’s unclear what led to this statement, which was made at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. Rafe Judkins, the showrunner, personally informed fans of the news.

The announcement of a third season of The Wheel of Time made him incredibly happy. The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to adapt it for television and introduce new viewers to the stories that first made me fall in love with these books is such an honor and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago, the author says.

An executive at Amazon Vernon Sanders continued: “We can’t wait to explore more of The Wheel of Time’s universe with Rafe Judkins and his crew, who have done an outstanding job of respecting Robert Jordan’s vision and providing Prime Video subscribers with a fantastic viewing experience. Season 1 was a hit with diehard Jordan fans and newcomers discovering this extraordinary universe for the first time, demonstrating how unique this program is within its genre. Giving fans more reasons to be enthusiastic about the program and bringing more of The Wheel of Time to our consumers across the world makes us ecstatic.”
