Season 4 of The Umbrella Academy was confirmed as the series last season, but Netflix’s plans for the program are concerning. The Umbrella Academy’s conclusion, while somewhat sad for some, could be a good omen as it allows the program to conclude on a positive note. Netflix hasn’t disclosed the number of episodes, although there are rumors that it will be less than prior seasons, which may be one of the few drawbacks.
Along with the announcement of the season extension, it was revealed that Netflix would collaborate with Umbrella Academy’s showrunner, Steve Blackman, on some upcoming projects. Blackman will work on projects such as an adaptation of the well-known Playstation game, Horizon Zero Dawn, and an original series called Orbital under Irish Cowboy Productions. The latter is a joint effort with Sony; it is reportedly dubbed Horizon 2047 and is set in a different period than the game.
Given the prior program format that worked for seasons 1-3, the reduced episode duration for The Umbrella Academy season 4 might be troublesome. The series took its time weaving together many stories centered on its main protagonists, which culminated in a group effort to save the end of the world. There is a chance that some narratives could be hurried in a shorter season. Some of the different storylines will probably be blended or shortened because the whole major cast is expected to return. It would be fascinating to see how these topics are addressed in a shorter season and whether any of them receive a succinct or ultimately inadequate resolution as a consequence. Season 3’s closing episode left many questions unanswered.
The same story tricks cannot be used in Season 4 of Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy’s decision to cease after season 4 may be the right one, but they cannot continue using the same plot devices. During past seasons, the characters would spend a significant amount of time apart. For instance, in season 2, while her brother Five spent most of the season attempting to stop a version of himself from assassinating the president, Allison spent most of the season battling racism alongside her husband. More shared stories will probably be necessary for season 4 to succeed.
The characters’ unique identities have already been established, thus the emphasis should change to how their interpersonal relationships will develop after surviving a second catastrophe. The Umbrellas broke into smaller groups and parted ways at the Umbrella Academy season 3 finale, indicating that the final season’s storylines would probably center on the many breakaway groups.
The fourth season of The Umbrella Academy has the potential to cap off the show’s impressive run. Now that the Umbrella has survived three apocalypses, it is the ideal time to conclude its adventure. Despite concerns over a shortened season, the program has already done an excellent job of building the characters and providing an action-packed conclusion.
