Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted on Prime Video on September 1. The fantasy series based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s writings was only recently introduced by the streamer, but it already appears to be a huge hit. The season premiere broke Prime Video’s prior records and became the streamer’s biggest premiere ever with an amazing 25 million global viewers in its first day.

Executive producers of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. With a focus on the creation of the rings of power, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power takes readers back to the Second Age of Middle-earth. The events in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies took place thousands of years before those in the series.

The series is a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings because it takes place during the Second Age of Tolkien’s mythology. The Rings of Power, which is set many centuries in the past, delves into the well-known setting while also bringing back many fond memories of Middle-Earth. Instead of following a core group of adventurers, breaking the story up into multiple plotlines, and transporting the audience to other parts of the globe from Galadriel’s search for the dark force to the forbidden romance between an elf and a woman—the series veers away from the world of cinema. Although the pace of the series’ two-episode opening is languid, it is supported by excellent performances and photography.

The head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, commented on the achievement after the series launched in 240 countries and territories around the world and this new feat. She praised the creative team, the Tolkien estate, as well as the millions of fans worldwide who have made it a successful beginning to another epic adventure. She said, “It is somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories – among the most popular of all time, and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre have led us to this proud moment. I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate – and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew – for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy. And it is the tens of millions of fans watching clearly as passionate about Middle-earth as we are – who are our true measure of success.”

The show’s breathtaking visuals and engaging storylines are intertwined with the splashing of vast lore’s hues across the immersive magical canvas. However, the prequel’s ability to replicate the sensation of awe that the Lord of the Rings movies had is its most significant feature. Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belen Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado are also executive producing the show. The show is produced by Ron Ames and Christopher Newman, and it is directed by Bayona and Charlotte Brändström.
