Season 2 of Netflix’s Uncoupled: What to Expect and Renewal Status

Uncoupled

The new comedy series from Neil Patrick Harris has been available on Netflix for over a month. The actor makes a return to a style that helped launch his career. If you’ve already binged through Uncoupled’s 8 brief episodes and are looking for information on season 2, here is what we know. The show is directed by Jeffrey Richman and Darren Star, the latter of whom is also responsible for Emily in Paris, another smash hit on Netflix. Prior to that, Sex and the City, Melrose Place, and Younger were some of Star’s best-known works. On July 29th, 2022, eight episodes of the comedy debuted on Netflix. The comedy followed a man living in New York City who had to rediscover life after a long-term relationship abruptly ended.

Renewal Status for Uncoupled Season 2

Netflix has yet to officially announce whether the show will return for a second season after a month on the service. As time passes, it becomes less likely that the show will be renewed, and it will almost certainly be renewed or cancelled based on its ratings. On the review front, it received mostly positive feedback from both audiences and critics. It currently has a 77% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 74% audience rating on RT, and an IMDb rating of 7.0/10.

Given the show’s lukewarm performance thus far (more on that below), we’re currently split on the show’s future. It has one of the best chances of any of the current crop of new comedy series to be renewed, but given Netflix’s track record in the space, it may not have the numbers needed to justify a second season.

In the first three days of being available on the platform, the series was unable to crack the top 10 hourly charts on Netflix globally. Though it’s not necessarily the end of the world, this shows that it didn’t get off to a great start. Between July 25 and July 31, Uncoupled would have needed more than 20.17 million hours of global viewing to surpass the second season of Stranger Things on the charts. The programme eventually made it into the top 10 shows on Netflix worldwide for one week, from July 31 to August 7. It accrued 26.52M hours and came in sixth place that week. The following week, when it would have required 18.07M hours to rank, it dropped out.

On August 3rd, four days after its debut, the show grew to become the sixth most watched show in the world, but its popularity has since sharply declined, according to TelevisionStats.com. In fact, a month later, it has fallen to #214, indicating that the show might not be able to sustain itself.

What to expect from Netflix’s Uncoupled Season 2

We already have a pretty good idea of where the show is going, should it be renewed. At the end of the season, we saw Michael leaving for home after learning that Colin had been thinking twice about the separation that had initially caused so many issues. Will Michael think about trying again with their 17-year-old relationship? Stanley must receive treatment after receiving a stage one breast cancer diagnosis elsewhere. Given that Kai abruptly left a meeting, Kai’s father continues to be a big mystery.
