Jessica M. Thompson’s new supernatural horror film from Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Releasing is now in theatres. It will be available on Netflix in select regions over the next few months and years. Here’s a timeline of when you’ll be able to watch the film on Netflix.
The new horror film, starring Nathalie Emmanuel, Thomas Doherty, and Stephanie Corneliussen, is about a woman who takes a DNA test and discovers a long-lost cousin. She is then invited to a lavish wedding, but not everything is as it appears, and she is cast into hell. The film was released in theatres on August 26th and earned $7 million at the box office that weekend.

So far, the reviews for the film have not been kind. The film has a 21% critics score and a 57% audience score on RottenTomatoes. According to WeGoThisCovered, the film “aims high, and while it’s regularly impressive on a visual and aesthetic level, the storytelling lets the Gothic horror down in the end.”

When will The Invitation be available on Netflix globally?

Let’s start with the two regions that will receive this film as part of their respective first window deals. In the case of India, new Sony films have consistently arrived 120 days after their theatrical release. That was the case with Morbius, which premiered in theatres on April 1st and arrived on Netflix India on August 1st (it has yet to arrive on Netflix US). The film is expected to be released in India on December 24th, 2022.
In the United States, the film may be available around this time, but Sony movies haven’t been consistently available on Netflix. Uncharted took 168 days to arrive on Netflix in the United States.

That means The Invitation will be available on Netflix in the United States between December 2022 and February 2023.
Other Sony films coming to Netflix in the United States in the coming months include Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt, Morbius (expected in September/October 2022), Father Stu, Where the Crawdads Sing, and many more.
Netflix receives new Sony films in multiple regions, but usually a year or two after their initial release. Netflix Canada and the United Kingdom, for example, receive Sony films two years after their theatrical release. This is also true for countries like Belgium, Greece, Japan, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and South Africa.

That means The Invitation will be available on Netflix in these regions sometime in 2024.
