The Johnny Manziel documentary on Netflix

There are several historical tales involving the Cleveland Browns. While many involve battles on the playing field, some go above and beyond the usual. This summer, Hue Jackson’s problems reemerged in several different ways. After a turbulent start to his career in Cleveland, wide receiver Josh Gordon is still active in the NFL.

The selection of quarterback Johnny Manziel and the course of his career were two of the more significant stories on a national scale.

I was there when the Browns chose Manziel in Radio City Music Hall. Fans in all different club jerseys were cheering and chanting while holding up Manziel’s signature “money” posture.

Manziel participated in nine games in 2015 after appearing in five as a rookie in 2014, but he hasn’t been in an NFL game since. The former Heisman Trophy winner played in the NFL for just two seasons.

Undoubtedly an intriguing tale to tell, and it appears like Netflix is up to the challenge:

Following the successful two-part “Untold” series on Manti Te’o, Netflix is returning to its roots to tell the tale of a very well-known college football player whose tale has already been told in a variety of ways. Manziel will get the opportunity to share his “Untold” narrative with the world.

It will be fascinating to see whether Manziel’s performance can elicit the same level of compassion that Te’o’s did for the former Notre Dame linebacker. His critics will probably watch it with disdain while his supporters, mostly those with Texas A&M heritage, will cheer him on.
