The trailer for Netflix’s The Imperfects

On June 6, Netflix kicked off its second annual Geeked Week with a bang. The streaming platform introduced “The Imperfects,” a new “action-adventure, monster sci-fi” show, among a flurry of trailers released, including an announcement for season two of “All of Us Are Dead” and a sneak peek at Jenna Ortega’s new “Wednesday” series.

The upcoming Netflix series will follow three friends — a succubus named Abbi, a rock ‘n’ roll-obsessed banshee named Tilda, and a chupacabra named Juan — as they grapple with their newfound supernatural abilities and the consequences of becoming mutants. “Would you like monsters?” In the official trailer, Tilda yells, “We’ll give you f*cking monsters!” as the trio hides from government snipers.

“The Imperfects,” directed by Dennis Heaton of “Van Helsing” and “Fargo,” is the story of three 20-something test subjects who are forced to participate in an experimental gene-therapy study. The end result? They have supernatural abilities such as shapeshifting and telekinesis, which have some terrifying side effects. The group set out to find the mad scientist who carried out the experiment while “being chased by a government agency, dealing with college applications, teenage romance, random monster mutations, and all sorts of coming-of-age-related dramas.”

The intense fantasy trailer also shows the cast in action as they struggle to accept their newfound monster abilities and cope with the fact that they are no longer entirely human. The new show is essentially a superhero series crossed with horror, resembling the X-Men crew mixed with the “Animorphs” teens — and a lot of fake blood.
