Following the unsettling Will Smith slap gate incident, Chris Rock declines the invitation to host the Oscars in 2023 and compares the setting to a crime scene.

Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

Many people still clearly remember the Oscars 2022 “slap gate” event between Chris Rock and Will Smith. When the actor and comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, looking bald, he was serving as the event’s host. Will Smith was enraged by that and came over to Chris Rock on stage to smack him. Everyone was astonished, and Will Smith faced harsh criticism as a result. Chris Rock appears to not be ready to return to the Oscars stage just yet. He reportedly declined the offer to host the Oscars in 2023.

Chris Rock revealed this, according to The Arizona Republic, while performing at Phoenix’s Arizona Financial Theatre. Chris Rock discussed the Oscars 2023 during his stand-up routine and said he was unwilling to return as host. He even said that the entire thing was like a crime scene. The murder trial of O.J. Simpson in 1995 was brought up by the comedian. It would be similar to going “back to the restaurant,” where her mother had left the glasses, he said. Additionally, he made light of the fact that Nevada would not be open to hosting a bout between him and Will.” He is larger than I am. Nevada’s authorities would not authorize a battle between Will Smith and myself,” he allegedly claimed.

Will Smith is barred from the Oscars.

The Academy has already denounced the act after the slap gate incident. As a result of the event, Will Smith won’t be able to attend the Oscars for the next ten years. The year before, for the film Richard, he took home the Best Actor award. He cried as he walked up to the platform to claim his award. He acknowledged his error and even offered Chris Rock his condolences. But by then, the harm had already been done!
