Everything We Know So Far About Netflix’s Series Wednesday

Wednesday 1

Wednesday, a new family series based on The Addams Family, will premiere on Netflix in November 2022. Below is our complete preview for the new series, as well as everything else you need to know about Wednesday, such as the plot, casting news, production updates, and the Netflix release date. Wednesday is a new Netflix Original family fantasy series directed by Tim Burton. Netflix won the bidding war for the show, outbidding all competitors to gain exclusive global distribution rights. The series was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar.

Wednesday’s production studio, MGM TV, has already been announced, with Burton on board as an executive producer in addition to his directing duties. On the Original, Burton is joined as a producer by Jon Glickman, Andrew Mittman, and Gail Berman. Wednesday’s release will be a milestone in Tim Burton’s career because it will be his directorial debut on television.

What is the plot of Netflix’s Wednesday?

The official loglines for the series have been revealed by Netflix:
Wednesday Addams’ misadventures as a student at Nevermore Academy, a one-of-a-kind boarding school tucked away in the heart of New England. Wednesday’s attempts to master her new psychic ability, stop a monstrous killing spree terrorising the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that engulfed her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
A much more detailed synopsis for Wednesday has also been released:

Willa aka Wednesday Adams is starting a new chapter in her life at the academy, her parents’ two-century-old boarding school, after being kicked out of eight schools in five years. Willa, on the other hand, has no desire to return to their alma mater and is already plotting her escape. But this academy is unlike any other she’s ever been to. It’s an outcast school with four main cliques: the Fangs (vampires), Furs (werewolves), Scales (sirens), and Stoners. It is also a piece of the puzzle that contains dark secrets about her family’s history.

Who are the Wednesday cast members?

Wednesday Addams’ role has finally been revealed. Jenna Ortega, who Netflix subscribers should recognise by now, is playing the iconic role. Ortega has appeared in several Netflix Originals. She is best known for her roles as Ellie in You, Phoebe in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Katie Torres in Yes Day. She also plays Brooklyn in the Jurassic World animated series Camp Cretaceous. Outside of Netflix, Ortega has appeared in films such as Disney’s Elena of Avalor, The CW’s Jane the Virgin, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Iron Man 3.

We finally got our first look at Jenna Ortega in full as Wednesday Addams during Netflix’s Geeked Week event! Fans of the Addams Family, both new and old, should be ecstatic to see Ortega in action.
Christina Ricci, the former Addams Family and Wednesday Addams actress, has joined the cast of Wednesday! It’s unclear what role Ricci has been cast in, but we can confirm that she won’t be playing an older version of Wednesday Addams.

It took a little longer than expected, but we have our Morticia and Gomez Addams cast in place for Wednesday! Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia Addams, while Luis Guzmán will play her on-screen husband Gomez Addams. The Wednesday series has also cast the remaining leads and supporting cast members.

When does Netflix release on Wednesday?

The Wednesday series will debut on Netflix in the fall of 2022, as expected, and Netflix has since confirmed that it will premiere in November 2022. (missing out on the Halloween schedule). Although no specific release date has been announced, we anticipate that it will be on Wednesday.
