Mark your calendars on September 8 if you’re one of those people who misses Obi-Wan Kenobi more than normal. On that day, as part of the long-awaited Disney+ Day, a brand-new behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Obi-Wan Kenobi called Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return will make its streaming service premiere.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Moses Ingram (Third sister/Reva Sevander), and Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) together with director and showrunner Deborah Chow may be seen discussing the process of eventually bringing the narrative to life in the documentary’s teaser. The teaser’s final image of Princess Leia Organa, played by rising talent Vivien Lyra Blair, the image of Princess Leia Organa, played by rising talent Vivien Lyra Blair, in the teaser raises the possibility that she may also be included in the documentary.

For McGregor and Christensen, the series offered a return to roles they previously performed more than 20 years ago in the prequel trilogy, flicks that served as a doorway to young fans and welcomed them into the Galaxy Far, Far Away with famous characters they could call their own. In addition to Kenobi and Skywalker, the movies also introduced us to Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), who made a brief cameo appearance after Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), whose absence from the show was felt despite her absence.

At the Star Wars Celebration in May, thousands of fans got the opportunity to view the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi together for the first time. The cast of the show, which included McGregor, Christensen, and Blair as well as Indira Varma, Jimmy Smits, Rupert Friend, Simone Kessel, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Bonnie Piesse, was present for the premiere. Joel Edgerton, Sung Kang, and Kumail Nanjiani, who star in the show, were not present for the premiere.

The most recent in a line of behind-the-scenes films tracing the creation of Disney+ Star Wars tales is Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return. You might be excused for believing A Jedi’s Return was another short film, bonus episode, or Season 2 announcement considering that The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett both included extras under the heading of “Disney Gallery.” Hope always comes true. However, considering that viewers have been anticipating the release of this documentary since the series concluded in June, Disney’s decision to release it on the big screen on the day designated for their streaming service makes sense.
