After hearing the disappointing news that Barbie Ferreira won’t be playing Kat Hernandez in the HBO blockbuster series Euphoria’s third season, fans are expecting to hear some good news but it seems it’s not the case. The drama created by Sam Levinson is reportedly in the planning stages and will start shooting in February 2023 for Season 3. Production won’t start until a year after the Season 2 conclusion aired, giving us time to process the gravity of what happened in that final episode.

Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger. With a SWAT squad invading Fezco’s home and Ashtray (Javon Walton), Fez’s vicious and protective younger brother, possibly facing a horrifying end, the season ended on a cliffhanger. Major story points, such as Rue’s $10,000 bag of narcotics owed to drug lord Laurie, felt to have been abandoned. Never mind what happened between Nate (Jacob Elordi) and his father, or what Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Maddy (Alexa Demie) will think after the dust settles, if it ever does.

Other projects have most definitely contributed to any production delays given the star power of the show’s ensemble. Sweeney, who will appear with Dakota Johnson and Emma Roberts in the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, Storm Reid, who plays Rue’s anxious younger sister Gia, who will play Riley in the much awaited series adaptation of The Last of Us round out the cast of Euphoria.

The initial prediction for a 2024 debut appears plausible at this time, but it’s still unclear whether we’ll learn whether Levinson wraps off Laurie’s storyline in January like Season 2 or in the summer like the first season. HBO Max offers access to Euphoria’s first and second seasons as well as its two special episodes.
